On Friday the 10th August our school's Faith Alive Team participated in the Winter Sleep-Out in support of the St. Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.
Vinnies Sleepouts provide a glimpse into the realities of homelessness by ‘sleeping rough’ for a night to raise awareness and funds for Vinnies homelessness services. This experience challenged our students' sense of home and offers unique insights into the complex issues faced by people experiencing homelessness.
The aim of the night was to help raise awareness of poverty in our community and give our students the chance to work towards a more just and compassionate society. We were thrilled to have a fantastic turn out with around 40 students in attendance.
The students participated in a number of faith based activities which included the packing of all the donations received by the whole school.
Thank you for the generosity all our St Josephs families have shown for such a valuable cause.

We have been learning all about living things, how we can classify them, their adaptations and their life cycles. Year 4 Excursion Adventure! Our Year 4 students had a fantastic day out on Wednesday exploring Hyde Park Barracks and the Museum of Sydney! They stepped back in time to discover what life was like for convicts and early settlers, tried out hands-on exhibits, and deepened their understanding of Sydney’s fascinating history. It was a wonderful day of learning, curiosity, and fun—thank you to our amazing staff who made it possible.

Gardening Club is Blooming! There’s something special about watching our students’ faces light up as they dig, plant, water, and nurture life from the ground up! Each week, our Gardening Club has been getting their hands dirty — learning about sustainability, teamwork, and the beauty of God’s creation. Today we prepared the compost and then checked out our fruit and veggies. We have strawberries, corn, tomatoes, silverbeet, golden pumpkin, baby squash, and our first capsicum.

St Joseph's Advent Appeal Soon we enter the beautiful season of Advent, and we are reminded that this is a time to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. Advent is a season of hope, peace, joy, and love—the same gifts we share when we reach out to help others in need. This year, our school community will be supporting Jesuit Social Services (JSS) through our Advent Outreach Program. JSS helps people in our community who are going through difficult times—offering care, friendship, and hope to young people, families, and adults so they can build brighter futures. Over the next week and a half, each grade will be invited to bring in specific items to support the work of JSS. These donations will be placed around our class prayer spaces as a visible reminder of our shared mission to bring the light of Jesus to others. Nagle College Launches New STEM Scholarship for Future Innovators
Nagle College Blacktown has announced the launch of the “Christine Howe STEM Academic Scholarship”, a new opportunity designed to support and inspire young women passionate about STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). On Friday, our school community came together to celebrate Mission Month with a beautiful liturgy to begin our Socktober Day. It was a joyful occasion where we reflected on how we can live out our faith through compassion, generosity, and service. Our colourful socks reminded us that being a disciple of Jesus means walking in His footsteps — showing love, kindness, and care for others wherever we go. Through our fundraising efforts, we raised money to support the vulnerable members of our community, demonstrating that even small actions can make a big difference. Year 5 Leadership Day What an incredible day our Year 5 students had on their Leadership Day! Throughout the day, students explored what it truly means to be a leader in the footsteps of Jesus — someone who leads through service, kindness, and compassion. They took part in a range of fun and challenging activities that encouraged communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and courage. Students reflected on how leadership is not about power or position, but about using our gifts to serve others and make a positive difference in our school community. It was inspiring to see so many students step up with confidence and show that true leadership begins with a servant heart.
