📣 BEANIES & SCARVES DAY – THURSDAY 3rd JULY 🧣🧢 Last Friday night, our amazing Stage 3 students participated in the Vinnies Winter Sleepout Experience, learning more about homelessness and taking action to support those in need. As part of their outreach, they packed snack bags for the Vinnies Night Van and reflected deeply on the realities faced by people without a safe place to sleep. To support their work and raise awareness, we're inviting all students to wear a beanie and/or scarf with their school uniform this Thursday, 3rd July. Bring a gold coin donation to help us raise funds for this important cause and to show your support for our compassionate young leaders.

Yesterday our school community came together to celebrate the Feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus with a special Mass, reminding us of Christ’s deep and compassionate love for all—especially those who are lost, vulnerable or in need. As part of our celebration, we supported the Vinnies Winter Sleep Appeal, shining a light on the issue of homelessness in our community. Representatives from the St Vincent de Paul Society visited our school to speak with out Stage 3 students about the realities faced by those experiencing homelessness and how we can make a difference through acts of kindness, service and generosity. Our Stage 3 students took part in a meaningful Sleepout Experience, spending some time sleeping out on the playground. They also took part in reflective activities based on The Parable of the Lost Sheep, exploring how Jesus seeks out and cares for each of us—especially those who are most in need of love and support. In a practical act of service, students created food bags filled with snack items to donate to those doing it tough this winter. We are so proud of the empathy, action, and faith shown by our students as they live out the love of the Sacred Heart through service.

Today's topic for our Wellbeing Week post is managing anxiety. Most young people today experience anxiety at some point in their life. Sometimes that slight rush of anxiety that occurs prior to an exam or sporting event, can enhance their performance. However, experiencing too much anxiety, over long periods of time, can be extremely damaging to their health and wellbeing. There is a difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ anxiety. Statistics show, that the psychological health of young people today is far worse than it was a generation ago. This is having an adverse affect on children in both primary and secondary levels. Some of their issues of concern include stress, school, study, body image and friendship. Parents need to be aware of the warning signs of ‘bad’ anxiety. There are preventative measures parents can implement as well as teaching kids the skills to cope more efficiently with their anxiety. This week, St Joseph's is participating in World Wellbeing Week. Each day we will be sharing information to help promote wellbeing and support you joining in at home. Monday's Wellbeing Week Focus: Mindfulness Over the last decade, mindfulness has been slowly rising in popularity with many individuals practising it on a regular basis. Evidence based research has found that there are many benefits to mindfulness, which has prompted schools across the nation to implement this practice into their daily routines. Mindfulness can be described as attention training for your brain, enabling you to focus on something without judgement and to stimulate curiosity. Mindfulness can be practised in a number of ways and is something that can be done by everyone - no matter what your age! Mindfulness helps improve memory, engagement and performance. Its positive effect on the brain can improve immunity, mental wellbeing, learning ability, emotional health and even, time management. It is especially important in this era of information overload as our attention is constantly being pulled in many directions making us more distracted. This week our school was alive with colour and team spirit as students and staff proudly wore their State of Origin jerseys – with plenty of Blues and Maroons on show! 💙❤️ We also loved seeing students representing their favourite NRL, rugby, and other sporting teams – it was a great celebration of sport, school spirit, and community fun! No matter who you’re cheering for, it was all about coming together, showing pride, and having a great time.
